The Technical Board operates as the Puumala municipality’s environmental protection authority and operates under the Environment Secretary. The authority’s duties include statutory permit and monitoring matters, as well as advice and information. Official duties include i.a:

- Landscape permits
- Noise notifications
- Monitoring the water law
- Monitoring the waste law

Shore dredging
Shore dredging must be notified to South Savonia ELY-centre 30 days before the job is to start. The notification has to be accompanied by consent from the owner of the water area (or cooperative). The neighbours closest to the project should also be notified. Dredging is best carried out from 30th September – 30th April so that the disturbance to neighbours, fish and water fowl is the least possible.
